Who I am

My name is Joshua Prine, and I am a middle school and high school humanities teacher. I received my Bachelor's and Master's of Arts in English Literature with an emphasis in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), and specialized in English for my California credential. Throughout my career, I have taught English Literature, Composition, Communication by Design, Philosophy, and Theory of Knowledge in ESL, mainstream, Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Bacclaureate (IB) settings.

Currently, I am teaching 7th grade Literature, 8th grade Composition, 9th grade Literature, and 11th grade Design in the California Bay Area while also coaching our school's nationally acomplished Speech & Debate team.

Finding Purpose

Why I teach

Helping others is the most significant thing we can do as members of our communities. As an educator, I have daily opportunities to provide children and families with valuable resources they can use to improve their lives. Not only is better education is linked to better overall health for students in the long term, but as a teacher with an opportunity to see my students on a daily basis, I am able to support my students through their day to day issues as they navigate through the struggles of growing into independent contributers to society. I am happy to be able to make a difference in the lives of my students, especially in a content area like English where I am able to give students the opportunity to explore their own ideas about who they are and what they value. I want to make students feel like they are heard and respected and not only seen as children who don't know what they are talking about.
